Dr. Sager’s background is unusual. He has Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Aeronautics and Astronautics from MIT. Dr. Sager worked as a Trajectory Analyst at the NASA Mission Control Center in Houston during the Apollo moon landing program. He later worked at The MITRE Corporation, where he was involved in the design of the FAA’s air traffic control system.

At age 29, Dr. Sager left engineering to attend Eastern Virginia Medical School. He completed a residency in internal medicine at Wright State University. Dr. Sager has served as Chairman of the Department of Medicine at Reston Hospital. Dr. Sager is the Medical Adviser to the Fairfax County Police Disability Retirement Board.

Outside of the office, Dr. Sager still remains true to his science and engineering roots. Besides the New England Journal of Medicine, you can find Dr. Sager reading Aviation Week and Space Technology or articles on cell phone technology. If severe weather is approaching, you can find him taking a break to look out the window – Dr. Sager is a certified National Weather Service Skywarn Spotter. Dr. Sager is an avid news junky, keeping up with national and world news daily. He was the Assistant News Director for the MIT radio station while in college.

Dr. Sager takes pleasure in the accomplishments of his four grown children. He also enjoys travel, which is a good thing, as two of his four grandchildren live in London. Travel comes naturally. Dr. Sager worked as an AAA Travel Counselor while in high school and college. So far he has visited 50 states, 7 continents, and most of the cities and counties in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
